It seems like a dream. We are finally in Tucson for our long awaited visit. Kathleen Connally's photographs have challenged me to rekindle my love of photography. This is one of my first shots using a Nikon D70 and processed with Adobe Photoshop CS and NeatImage. I will post some of my shots periodically.
National Geographic Traveler's March 2005 issue includes an outstanding article by James Morgan called "Chasing Matisse". The article chronicles the author's journey to Southern France to paint in places where Henri Matisse painted. To read the article you must purchase the magazine from the newstand but National Geographic has created a Web Gallery of photographs from Mr. Morgan's travels in the South of France that are a delight to view.
After all of the cold and snow this winter I am ready to make my annual pilgrimage to Arizona. The weather in Tucson is awesome this time of the year. It is great for the soul and an inspiring place for any artist.
If you are in the area you will want to see the Saguaro National Park. The scenery is surrealistic and almost lunar like. Take your painting tools and try and capture the look and feel of the southwest on paper. Daniel Smith has great painting products including a series of paints dedicated to the desert colors. You should also drive to the top of Mt. Lemmon to experience going from desert to alpine climates. It is definitely worth the time.
