Art Boards: Brooklyn, NY

Redab66 Duane Keiser, A Painting A Day blogger, sent me an email a few days ago extolling the virtues of a company called Art Boards located in Brooklyn, NY. Art Boards produces archival art panels made from wood that can be used in painting, drawing, printmaking and mounting art. Mr. Keiser uses their product for his "A Painting A Day" paintings that are sold on his blog. I will be ordering a few panels to try out and I will let you know the results. Send me feedback on your experience with the product.

Gamblin Oil Colors

Logo_wheel I purchased the oil colors needed for my upcoming still life workshop recently and I decided to use Gamblin Oil Colors. I had received a sample of their product at the one of the art shows in New York last year that I liked very much. I also spent some time checking out their website and found a section that will be of great interest to anyone working with colors/color wheel.

The section of the website I am referring to is called "Navigating Color Space" and is a treasure trove of information. The purpose of the section is to provide an artist a system of laying out their palette that will give predictable mixtures of color. I found it extremely helpful and logical in the way that Gamblin recommends the palette to be laid out.  There is a DVD of the same name that can be ordered directly from the company that discusses this topic as well.

Golden Paints Web Site

IntrosetGolden Paints has a interesting site promoting their line of acrylic paints. The area dedicated to acrylic painting techniques is especially informative. I am currently working on a painting where I am using the glazing techniques discussed in this article. Definitely worth the time to read.
