Miami, FL: Carol Jazzar presents "Brad Kuhl & Monique Leyton - TAPAGE"

Carol Jazzar sent me a press release for an opening reception of "TAPAGE" by Brad Kuhl & Monique Leyton on November 12, 2005 (see the details below for more information).

My first exposure to "TAPAGE" (Ms. Jazzar created the name from a combination of tape and collage) was at the Chicago Contemporary & Classic show earlier this year. Their work is fantastic and stimulating. Seeing a JPEG or online photo of the work does not give justice to the visual impact of Kuhl & Leyton's work. The color, the acrylic tape, the message... all resonate when one is looking at these creations. Read my post of the Chicago show for more thoughts on "TAPAGE".

Atlanta: Gertsev Gallery

Paired Portrait
2002
Oil on Canvas
52in x 38in

I had a pleasant surprise in an otherwise grueling week today. I dropped by the Gertsev Gallery after lunch and met Ludmila Voyles, Director - Gertsev Gallery. I had stopped in the gallery, for a diversion from the many hours being spent at Piedmont Hospital, not knowing the fabulous art inside this special place. Ms. Voyles graciously walked me through the gallery and introduced me to the works of Oleg Dzjubenko, KakoIeva Iltnere and a several others that the gallery represented (All Russian or Soviet artists).

One artist in particular struck a chord with my tastes, Kako. The Kako painting that I saw was full of texture and color creating a childlike impression. I found myself going back to the painting in the gallery and enjoying the simplicity and harmony it created.

You can check out the Gertsev Gallery online or you can visit them while you are in Atlanta at 1929 Peachtree Road (404-352-2660).
